Building Our Home

Without year-round housing available to us, building a home became our greatest imperative.  Brian and Janet graciously vacated their house for us and spent the winter in South Africa (Brian’s homeland) visiting their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.  They had enough trust to let us run wild with chainsaws in their woods, cutting whatever pines we needed for our house frame.  Having enlisted our good friend and timber-framer Robbie Alden to log, mill, and cut joinery with us for the frame, by the time they returned from South Africa in spring, we had a complete house frame, stacked neatly and awaiting a foundation to put it on.

The more detailed story of our home begins with the beginnings of the house.
